Kid-Tough See Yourself Camera Review

Fisher Price toys have a fairly good track record, so I felt very confident picking the Kid Tough See Yourself Camera up. To begin with, it is nice that they have a model for a girl as well as a boy with different color schemes. My daughter appreciated the appeal of a pink, purple, and yellow camera with flower prints on the front. Surprisingly, this camera was super easy to get out of the box. Compared to all the straps most toys use, it was quite the relief to open the box and just take the camera out to hand to my daughter.

My Daughter’s Thoughts on the Kid Tough See Yourself Camera

Kids love taking pictures and mine is no different. She really liked the soft feel of the grips (which double as protection). Her favorite feature was the viewfinder. With a screen on the back of the camera instead of the peephole style of some cameras, it made it much easier to navigate taking shots. She would carefully aim and line up her shots just right before pressing the capture button. The rotating camera lens was also a big hit. Kids enjoy to take pictures of themselves and the fact that she could just flip the lens back and snap away was a blast for her. Combined with the viewfinder screen she loved making faces on screen before snapping a picture.

Camera Features

For a kids’ camera this model is fairly loaded. Let’s get this out of the way now; the picture quality is not good. But that really doesn’t matter much to little kids. They just like having their own stuff and we like them not to break ours; so poor picture quality is exchanged for a sturdy model. The camera comes with a 4x zoom which is enough for a child to maneuver and play with.

The memory is good, boasting a massive 1300+ images. That is much better than cameras you have to erase or download after 30-50 shots because kids will easily shoot that many in an hour. It has a video mode which eats up the memory fast, but is fun so your child can make short movies. Also is does okay in low light. There is no flash, but in a dim area it could still manage a picture.

Fun Kids’ Features

Along with the standard features, the kid tough camera is kid designed with very easy to use buttons. Using shapes, colors, and symbols it is simple to understand what button is for a certain function. For example the trash is a grey trashcan with an “X” over it while the stop button is red and an octagon shape. There also are silly stamps and special effects kids can use while taking pictures. You can press the purple ‘happy face’ button to bring up fun overlays for photos like a mummy head wrap, cowboy hat, bunny ears, and more!

Dads Final Kid Tough See Yourself Camera Review

This is a great kid’s camera. The size is perfect for two little hands and the soft, protective grips make it easy to hold on to while using the camera buttons. The big memory is awesome and the effects are cool. The only thing that is missing is fun games. Another camera we had seen has a few picture puzzle games that incorporate existing photos into a game. It makes the camera more versatile as a toy. As it is, I would classify this as an accessory more than a toy. My daughter is very serious when taking pictures and while she has fun, it is less silly play and more enjoyable learning and mimicking of us.

I love the power button which has off/camera/video selection capabilities. It is less confusing than a single button to turn the camera on/off near the other buttons. It is also distinct as a slider and not easy to accidently press. Also the battery loading is extremely painless. Instead of using tiny screws they have a single locking mechanism that when unlocked allows the bottom panels of the camera to open for battery changing. The USB connection is protected by a spring loaded cover as well for the camera’s protection.

Final Thoughts

Zero complaints on the kid tough see yourself camera for kids. Some people might think you need better picture resolution, but that is what the grown-ups camera is for. This is something they can play with, drop or whatever and have a good time. I think it is a great value and perfect for the age group (3 to 7) that it was designed for.
