Sonic Chronicles DS

Sonic the Hedgehog has been one of the most recognizable faces and names in the world of video games for the past fifteen-plus years. Over the years Sonic has starred in everything from fast-paced 2D sidescrollers, to kart racers to party games of every sort. Now, Sonic takes on Role-Playing Games with Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood for the Nintendo DS.

In this kid’s toy, After defeating Dr. Robotnik (yet again), Sonic decides to go on a nice, long, well deserved vacation. While he’s relaxing on the beach, Sonic’s lifelong companion Tails tells him that his one-time rival Knuckles has been kidnapped, and that the highly prized Chaos Emeralds have started to mysteriously disappear. Now, with the help of Tails, Shadow the Hedgehog, Amy and many others, Sonic has to both find Knuckles and obtain the Emeralds.

Like most Role-Playing Games and, for that matter, Nintendo DS games nowadays, Sonic Chronicles DS features two key types of gameplay: Action and Exploration. As with all the best toys, you will be drawn into the world of Sonic the Hedgehog as you revisit classic locations from Sonic games of the past. A few of these locations include Green Hill Zone, Emerald Town and Mystic Ruins. However, you will also be exploring new locations that are making their debut in Sonic Chronicles.

The game isn’t just about exploration, however. When Sonic and friends are forced to fight, they are certainly able to hold their own. Anybody who is familiar with the Final Fantasy games will surely be familiar with the combat gameplay in Sonic Chronicles. The turn-based combat will allow you time to plan your next move and use strategy to bring down your enemies with minimal effort.

As you go through the game, you will collect Chao. You can use this Chao to enhance your ability, or go online and swap your Chao with friends. Either way, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is a sure-fire hit that will suck you in the moment you press start.
