Fisher-Price Little People Toys

Who would have guessed that from very humble beginnings, some of the most popular, well known and well loved characters and play sets would emerge to capture the hearts of preschool kids and their parents?  Fisher Price Little People Toys were introduced in the 1960 as small, cylindrical figures with round heads.  These original figures were made of wood.  There were a couple of play sets available for use with the Little People figures, although the selection was very limited.  In the last forty years, the Fisher Price Little People Toy line has grown to include dozens of play sets, vehicles, and other items for preschool kids to treasure.

About Fisher Price Little People Toys

There are five people in the Fisher Price Little People Toy collection.  Their names are Michael, Sara Lynn, Sonya Lee, Eddie and Maggie.  The toys and play sets in the collection are geared toward kids age one through five years old, and there are four different types of sets- each one designed to fulfill a specific need in a child’s learning and development.  Discovery toys help kids to discover the world around them with the help of certain activities and toys.  Imagination toys are designed for pretend play and encourage children to use their imaginations.  Learning toys are designed to teach young kids basic knowledge like colors, shapes, letters and numbers- information kids need to assimilate at a young age and that will be serve them in the future as they move through school.  Additionally the building toys expand on knowledge provided by the other toy sets and adds an element of creativity as kids build their own toy out of blocks and then use the toy as it was intended to be used.

One of the favorite play sets in the Fisher Price Little People Toys collection is the Little People Animal Sounds Farm.  This farm themed play set is a reintroduction of one of the first Little People toys to be released onto the toy market in the 1960s.  While the original barn toy was pretty basic, able to make only one animal sound (a moo when the barn doors opened), the newest toy technology allows this rereleased version to make a variety of different animal sounds through electronic means as opposed to mechanical means.  The building style and decoration have also been update for the newest generation of toddlers and preschoolers so engage their interest and entertain the eyes as well as the hands.

Fisher Price Little People toys are very popular with kids and parents, and they have been at the top of the toddler toy list for over forty years now.  Their continued popularity indicated that they will likely stay around for a long time into the future.  The colorful characters, education filled play sets, and variety of different vehicles that teach kids about the various means of transportation in addition to provide hours of play fun are all reasons why Little People are here to stay.
