The world of Imaginext Dinosaurs is a large world of moving dinos that are designed to incite the imagination of children, making these creatures something that is touchable and fun to play with.
Spike the Ultra Dinosaur
Spike the Ultra Dino is one of the Imaginext Dinosaurs created for mainly older children. This choice has a fun cartoony look to it but, at the same time, can do some amazing things. Use the simple remote control and you can get spike to do tons of things, including walking, standing on his hind legs, moving his neck, roaring, and even picking up items. While this is a great moving dino, it may be a bit hard for younger children, and we suggest the age range of 5 to 10 instead of the 3 to 10 that the manufacturer recommends.
Spike Jr.
Spike Jr. is a smaller version of the well-known and loved Spike kids toys. This dino is designed for younger children and is much smaller, making it easier to travel with and easier for young children to get a handle on. This one doesn’t do as much as the original choice does but it is much easier for younger children to use. We recommend this toy for children who are anywhere from two years old to six years old, although older children may have fun playing with both Spike and Spike Jr. at the same time.
T-Rex
For a big Imaginext dinosaur, the T-Rex is the thing and one of the ho toys for christmas 2010. This toy looks just like a T-Rex, which is rated one of the most popular types of dinos among children, and can do tons of things. This choice, known as Razor, can do a variety of things, including roaring and crunching its jaws when a level on the bottom is pulled. There is even a saddle that can hold a cave man! This fun T-Rex is a dino that may look fearsome, but that we found is very fun for young boys to play with, especially boys who already have a fascination with this large selection.
Stracosaurus
The Stracosaurus is a unique dino indeed, but is one that most young children don’t know about. Unlike some other dinosaur toys, this one has tons of spikes, or spears, coming out of its back and tail. This beast is controlled by young children by pressing a trigger on the tail. This moves the head up and down and opens and closes the mouth. This is one toy that is not only extremely fun, but that seems a little scary, which is why we recommend that only young children over the age of four and under the age of ten.
Frilled Raptor
Some toys need tons of assembly, but the Frilled Raptor works straight out of the box. This is designed to last for a very long time, no matter how often it gets dropped, which is a plus for young children. This Frilled Raptor is named Surge, and he works by pressing a button on the tail, which opens and closes the mouth. What we love is that no matter how much you try, the mouth doesn’t hurt a child’s fingers, which is ideal for young children. We recommend this toy for any child over the age of three and know that those who collect it will find it a great addition to their collection.
Spinosaurus
One thing that is unique about the Spinosaurus is that it stands on two feet perfectly balanced, just as the real dino would. This Imaginext Dinosaur not only stands like a real one, it is made with a very heavy material that feels much like you could imagine a dino’s skin would feel. The lower jaw moves perfectly to make this not only look authentic, but look ferocious as well. We found the detail to be absolutely amazing and something that collectors as well as children will thoroughly enjoy.
Dimetrodon
Young children, especially young boys, love to play with dinos too, and the Dimetrodon is a great one for them to begin with. This choice works very simply, by pushing on the button on it’s thigh, and the bright colors and cartoony design of it keep it entertaining for even very young boys. We believe this is a great selection for boys who are over the age of three, as this does have small parts that come with it, making it unsafe for children who are under the age of two to use. But even adults will have fun playing with this dino.
Stegosaurus
The Stegosaurus is one of many children’s favorite dinos, simply because it has cool armored plates and fun spikes on its tail. The Imaginext Dinosaur Stegosaurus keeps the original idea of a stegosaurus and makes it fun for children to play with. It has bright colors, unique patterns, and an easy-to-push button that makes its mouth open and close. All of the joints function, which is something we love about it, and even though we at first thought the addition of a caveman seemed weird, children actually have fun making the caveman and the Stegosaurus interact together, helping to stimulate the imagination.
Pteranodon
We firmly believe that no Imaginext Dinosaurs set would be complete without a flying choice, and the Pteranodon fills that need beautifully. This dino moves its wings through a pull string apparatus on the front of him. The wings themselves are actually made of a fabric material, which means that it may be easily destroyed and is why we’re recommending only children over the age of five play with this toy if you want to keep it in good working order for any length of time. It is, however, safe for children who are three and over to play with.
Duck-Billed Dinosaur
The Duck-Billed Dino is definitely unique looking, but is an essential part of any collection. This dino has bright colors and moves with the trigger by the tail. We found that this toy wasn’t quite as much fun for younger boys as ones like the T-Rex, but it is a great one to add to a collection, as it makes it easier for the dinos to “choose sides” during a war. This ecovore can even be used to help children learn more about the way they lived, making it not only fun to play with in our eyes, but an educational tool as well.
