When the summer months start to warm up the earth, it’s time to head outside and enjoy the warm weather! This is the time when you’ll find families out on their lawns enjoying lawn games and having fun together as a family. If you’re looking for some of the best games to play outdoors, here they are!
BlongoBall
The name may sound funny, but the game itself is great fun to play! Blongo Ball is a yard game that you can play with just a few friends or family members. Players use what look like bolos and try to get them around specific horizontal bars to get points. The more points you get, the faster you win the game! With lots of different options for playing, this is one game that is guaranteed to be an instant favorite the minute that you get it in your home and set it up!
Croquet
When you’re talking about the best lawn games, you can’t avoid talking about croquet! This classic game is one that has kept people entertained for a very long time and will continue to be a family favorite. The point of the game is to use a mallet and to whack balls through specific hoops that are set up a certain way on the lawn. Players are trying to hit the stick at the end of either side of the course, and the first one who gets their ball all around the course wins!
Boccie Ball
People who are familiar with the classic winter game of Curling will have some idea as how to play Boccie Ball. This game is played using round balls. Each player gets a certain number of balls and then a smaller ball is thrown onto the course. The object of the game is to get your balls closer to the small ball than any other player does. The person or team who racks up the most points wins! It’s a game that can be great fun for players of all ages, as the size of the court can be adjusted for adults or children.
Bags
In the summer there are lots of lawn games that adults can enjoy, but very few for younger children. A bean bag toss game is just the ticket for younger children. The object of this game is to get the soft bean bag into the correct hole or spot on the yard. This can be played with one person or with many people, and it is lots of fun for the entire family, especially if you have younger children who are limited in the games that they can play.
Badminton
Another classic yard game is Badminton! This is a game that is great for adults and teenagers to play, but it may be harder for younger children. Simply set up the net and get out the racquets! Players take turns hitting the birdie, which is a small object that is much lighter than a traditional tennis ball, back and forth. It is played much like tennis except that the birdie should never hit the ground, and if it does hit the ground, the opposing team gets the point!
Jarts
The game of Jarts is often called lawn darts. Just as in a game of regular darts, your object is to get your dart into a specific ring. This is made much more difficult, however, by the fact that the darts are actually weighted on the end, making it tricky to be able to get the dart into the right hoop! Jarts are safe for young children to play because the tips of the darts are blunt, helping make it a great game for families to play together.
Horseshoes
When you talk about lawn games, you simply have to talk about horseshoes. This game has been around for a very long time and for good reason. It’s extremely fun to play and it’s a good game for children to enjoy as well as adults! Simply set up two metal poles on either end of a specified court size and take turns trying to get your horseshoe as close to the pole as you can. If you get it on the pole itself, this is known as a ringer and is the best that you can possibly do. The team that gets the most points, wins!
Backyard Disc Golf
Playing in the back yard with a Frisbee is one thing, but you can take the play time up a notch and can turn it into true lawn games when you look at Backyard Disc Golf. This game is all about making sure that you’re not only able to throw the disc far enough away, but also that you’re able to be accurate with your toss as well! It is a great game for families to play, although it may get frustrating for younger children who are trying to play it.
When you’re talking about playing the best lawn games with the entire family, there are many options available to enjoy. That’s why, when summer rolls around, you may want to take a look at the many options available to you, so that you can get your family away from the computer and/or the cell phones and enjoying spending time together on the grass!
