There are few times of the year that are more exciting to a child than the days leading up to Christmas. The anticipation of what kids toys Santa Claus will bring this year and the predicted excitement of what Christmas morning will be like are almost too much to bear. Although a child really does not need any help getting excited about the upcoming holiday, one way that might help her channel her excitement into something productive is with the LEGO City Advent Calendar 2009. Traditional advent calendars typically have a square to open each of the 24 days leading up to Christmas and may involve a chocolate or a small toy to hang on a tree. However with this toy, each day leading up to Christmas will involve the creation of a fun Lego project.
This toy is great if you have several children, because they can work together on the projects and learn teamwork or take turns on who gets to do the project each day, which teaches sharing and patience. The projects in the LEGO City Advent Calendar 2009 are, like in a regular Advent calendar, hidden behind small windows that the child opens each day. Throughout the 24 days, a miniature Lego city will be created with the appearance of nine mini-figures, as well as accessories. Among the figures are a snowman, a policeman, a fireman, a postal worker, and a baker. The city also comes with trees, sleds and other fun things to make the city complete. The detail on the figures is really great. For example, the policeman has a megaphone and the postal worker has a giant sack of mail, which could possibly have letters to Santa inside.
The LEGO City Advent Calendar 2009 is for ages 5-12 so a wide range of kids can participate and if you have younger kids, they can be in charge of opening the squares and then watching the older kids put the blocks together. It will be great to have your child open the window and put the toy together before heading off to school or as a special treat when they get done with their homework after school. Children love getting presents, no matter how small, and imagine their excitement at 24 days of little gifts. It will bring them, and you, much joy.

Of course after Christmas is over, the toy is not obsolete, as kids can add the blocks from it to their full collection of other items, and the figures can interact with figures from other sets that they may have, or even their other toys. It would not be uncommon to see Lego postal worker being attacked by a dinosaur or a similar scenario.
