There are some games that are calm and that make complete sense, but there are others that are, well, a bit insane. While it’s fun to play games that are calming sometimes, there are times when it’s a blast to play games that are completely insane, and if you’re looking for games that are insane then Quelf is something that you should definitely check out.
The game was created and sold by Wiggity Bang Games. Yes, Wiggity Bang Games. The company is owned and the game was created by three men, something that doesn’t often happen with games that are considered some of the top toys of 2011. Inside the box you’ll find a board that looks, well, a bit kooky, five differently colored cards, a dice, a stand, a timer, and your game pieces. The characters are, quite frankly, absolutely hilarious. You’ll find names like Mr. Lugnut, Queen Spatula and, of course, everyone’s favorite: super ninja monkey!
How to Play
The game has been compared to Cranium by many and it is pretty similar in that it has categories like the Cranium game does. Set up the game board first and figure out which character you are going to play. Once you’ve figured it out which character you want to be, and there is a very good reason to select certain characters and to avoid others, you start to play. Simply grab a card and roll the dice and the card will tell you what you have to do. You’ll either have to answer a trivia question or you’ll find yourself having to do something, which may wind up being pretty silly. One thing that each card has, and its where the game gets its name from, is the Quelf effect. This effect is something that is found on the bottom of the cards and is something that can be an in-game effect. This effect may be a huge help or may be a simple saying. Paying attention to this effect may be a great way for you to win the game, but it may not.
One of the things about this game is that it’s a party game, and that’s why it’s one of the best toys for 2011. It’s not a game that you should be focused on winning but rather on having fun, and that is one of the best things about this game. Instead of focusing on doing your best, you’re focused more on trying to stop laughing about the things that the other players have been asked to do!

We loved that this is a party game that is perfect for three or more adults, although the company states that it can be played by children over the age of 12, we would recommend that they are over the age of 15. We really loved the things that we were asked to do – for instance have you ever been asked to lick someone else’s elbows? Play Quelf and you may be!
There isn’t a lot to dislike about this game, but we did think that the age of 12 was a bit off. We felt that it was better for older children and that it really shined the most as a game for adults. If adults are playing it together it makes for the perfect Saturday night game. And we also feel that the game may get stale after you play it a few times, which can be frustrating for people who are looking for a game that has a lot of replay value.

Most have said Quelf is a very fun party game that is perfect for adults and is a great way for adults to have a blast together without playing something boring. Many, however, caution that while it’s not good for younger children, the things that the cards will make adults do are definitely laugh-inducing. Almost every reviewer said it is something that you will remember for a long time. One even added that when friends play with you, they’ll likely wind up wanting to get their own copy of the game.
