The world of pocket racing has become big business, and now more than ever people are scrambling to find, or build, the best pocket bikes. Young children are often confused, as these bikes look small enough to carry them but actually go far too fast to make them safe for riding. There are, however, some battery powered mini-bikes that allow a set amount of speed and are much safer for younger children to ride on.
The Bike
The Razor Pocket Rocket is an electric scaled-down street bike that is almost an exact replica of a real sports bike. This electric bike works due to a single-speed chain-driven motor that ensures a smooth and quiet ride. This little bike is suitable for children up to 170 pounds and the manufacturer recommends that only children who are over the age of thirteen ride on it, although we found that children as young as eight could, with the proper supervision, ride it around safely.
The Features
Unlike gas powered pocket bikes, which can sometimes go up to 80 miles an hour, the Razor Pocket Rocket can only go up to 15 miles an hour, making it much safer for young children to ride. It has a hand operated rear break which stops the bike properly and also comes with a pit stand and tools that can be used on the bike, promoting that children not only ride it, but learn how it works as well. It also comes with 10 inch pneumatic tires which give a smooth ride and which will last for a very long time.
The Battery
The only problem with this bike is the fact that it is battery powered. While most gas powered bikes are too big, fast, and heavy for young children to use, battery powered ones do not last very long. It takes about twelve hours to charge the battery fully and the child can get about a half an hour to forty-five minutes out of a single battery charge. Most parents, and children, would prefer that the bike either charged faster or lasted longer on a single charge. This, however, is the trade off – in order to get a safer bike, you do have to deal with that small annoyance. The Razor Pocket Rocket is a perfect solution for young children who would like to ride on a mini-bike – simply add a helmet and knee pads and they can zoom around the yard and up and down the sidewalk with a huge smile on their face.
