LeapFrog Tag Reading System

The LeapFrog Tag Reading System is truly an amazing technological toy.  It is highly educational and helps kids learn to read and builds on the reading skills they already have.  Kids can read on their own by touching the special pen, which contains a lens in the tip, to the specially printed words on the pages of the special books designed for use with the reading system.

The LeapFrog Tag Reading System includes the reader, a book and a USB cable and software.  The system is quite easy to set up.  Simply run the software to install it in your computer, hook the reader pen up to the computer using the USB cable, and the software will take you through the setup process.  After that, you can download each new book into the reader pen and it will be ready to use.  The reader runs on only two AAA batteries, and the batteries last for quite a while before they need to be replaced.

There are quite a few LeapFrog Tag Reading System reviews written by satisfied parents who love how much the system has accelerated their child’s learning.  Some parents have actually used the system to teach their kids to read from scratch, and the system enables kids to read entire books independently once they learn to read from top to bottom, left to right.

One LeapFrog Tag Reading System review was from a parent who was disappointed that the reader cannot be set up for more than one child.  She expected to be able to set up individual profiles for each of her children on the same reader.  While not quite what she expected, this system was designed to be personalized for one child, and so each child will need his or her own reader pen.  However, the books can be used for more than one reader, so there is no need to buy each child a copy of the same book.

Another LeapFrog Tag Reading System review expressed just the opposite opinion.  This mom was very pleased to know that she could keep track of each child’s progress individually, and she had purchased a reader pen and case for each of her kids, and then just stocked the library with one copy of each book.  The kids picked their favorite books and used those in the reader.  The reader can hold up to five books at one time, and the selection of books can easily be changed by downloading a different set of books.

The vast majority of the LeapFrog Tag Reading System reviews we found are extremely positive.  Parents love the system, and their kids seem to love it just as much.  One of the biggest perks parents have pointed out about this system is that the special books for the reading system are no more expensive than other children’s hardcover books.  They also love that the system has a headphone jack so that parents can purchase a set of headphones and children can read quietly, even in the same room as a sleeping child, and there is no noise at all.

One very helpful review suggested that parents who buy LeapFrog Tag Reading System should also invest another few dollars in the extremely handy Tag Reader carrying and storage case.  The case holds the reader and up to six books to keep the items clean and undamaged during travel and even around the house.  Having a handy place to put the reader back keeps it from getting lost or stepped on, and the books don’t get all dog- eared and don’t get spilled on.  It also teaches kids to put items away in their proper place when they are finished playing.

Tag reader is great. Children learn to read much faster when they play with it. Wish they had had toys like this when I was a young Mum

I bought this for my daughter and I must say it is a blessing to have. She is 5 and picked up the reading very fast. The first night she was reading the “Spongebob, Tour De Bikini Bottom” book and next thing I know she didn’t even need the Tag pen to read the words.

It could be because she had read it so much she knew the words but I would definately recommend this book to everyone. The only downfall is the fact that it hold only 6 books in the pen, but I find that she gets tired of one book so I will delete it from the pen and put in another one.

Very educating and I will be buying this TAG set for my nephews. A+++ Highly Recommend!!

My son will turn 3 in January but he already runs straight to the Tag reader anytime he see’s it in a store. I know he is young but I can’t decide whether to get it or not for x-mas. It’s the only toy he really sits and plays with. I wasn’t sure if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks so much. Kacey

This would be a good toy for your child. Although it is recommended for children 4 - 8. If they like it, I don’t think the age difference will matter.

There is also the LeapFrog Clickstart which would be a more age appropriate educational electronic toy.
