Ben 10 Omnitrix

Before listing the final results of our Ben 10 Omnitrix review, here is a little background information on Ben 10, the character and the cartoon.  Ben 10 is one of the most popular cartoon TV shows among elementary and even middle school boys.  Ben is just a normal boy until the day he finds the alien item called the Omnitrix and places this watch- like object on his wrist.  From this day forward, he has super powers that he can use whenever he wants to transform into one of ten alien creatures like “Ripjaws”, “Stinkfly”, “Fourarms” and “Heatblast”, just to name a few.  This show is a favorite among boys because they like the idea of a regular boy who gets lucky and finds an item that gives him super powers that every boy dreams of at one point or another.  The Omnitrix is a very popular toy among fans of the TV show because they can engage in pretend play starring themselves as the shape shifting super hero.

The Ben 10 Omnitrix comes with one translucent mini figure, but there are nine others to collect separately.  Each figure can be attached to the Omnitrix and unlocks a special light and sound combination that is specific to that particular figure.  Boys can use the Omnitrix for pretend play and become their favorite Ben 10 character with his very own theme music just by placing the figure onto the Omnitrix.

While boys ages three or four all the way to around fourteen are big fans of the show, but this toy seems to be a little bit beneath the interest of an older boy.  The toy only has light and sound features, and it doesn’t do too much.  Younger boys had a very good time playing with it during our reviews and testing sessions, as they could use the item for pretend play.  Older kids, however, were quickly bored with the toy and wanted to move on to other things.  The oldest boy who seemed to be impressed with the toy was nine years old.

Something very handy to know is that there is another product available for sale, an accessory pack that includes all ten of the little figures in addition to a spare set of batteries for the Ben 10 Omnitrix, which is handy because it uses button cell batteries instead of the more easily used AAA or AA batteries.  If you plan to buy the Omnitrix for your child, you can also buy the set of alien figures at the same time so that your child can get the most out of his new toy from the beginning.  A small pack or box would also be a wise purchase in which the store the Omnitrix and all the figures when they are not in use.  Any toy with that many small parts is going to need to be kept close track of, so that none of the pieces get lost.
